Book Review: Dead With the Wind by Miranda James

An’gel and Dickce Ducote tend to stay put in Athena, Mississippi, but a wedding is a good reason to say a temporary farewell to Charlie Harris’s cat Diesel and go visit relatives. But while their stay in Louisiana is scorching hot, the atmosphere at the wedding is downright cold, with bride-to-be Sondra Delevan putting her trust fund above little things like love and loyalty.

When a violent storm supposedly sweeps Sondra off a balcony to her death, the sisters discover that many of the guests attending the wedding had major reasons to object to Sondra’s marriage. Now, it’s up to An’gel and Dickce to use their down-home instincts to expose dubious alibis, silver-plated secrets, and one relentless murderer who lives for “till death do us part.”[summary via Amazon]

Miranda James is the author of not one, but two, popular cozy mystery series and after reading Dead With The Wind I'm hard-pressed to decide which of the two series is my favourite. Miranda writes the Cat in the Stacks series, featuring super cat sleuth, Diesel, and his human, librarian Charlie Harris. She also writes the Southern Ladies Mysteries, with Dead With the Wind being the second book in this series.

While An'gel and Dickce play a small role in the Cats in the Stacks mysteries, they've been given the spotlight in their own series and they sure do shine!

In Dead With The Wind the sisters are visiting relatives for a big wedding. However not everything goes to plan, when the bride is found dead. It's up to An'gel and Dickce to put their sleuthing caps on and try to find out who the murderer is before another body turns up!

Everything about this book was simply marvelous. It was the perfect summer read. I delved into it with my feet up and a glass of sweet, cold tea. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. Miranda James' enthralled me with a fantastic mystery, with more twists than a windy road. As a long-time reader of cozy mysteries, I love a surprise ending that I don't see coming, and she certainly delivered with this!

Any visit with An'gel, Dickce, their ward, Benji, and their furry companions is always a good visit, however, this one was even better than the last. I feel like I've gotten to know these characters better, and I'm looking forward to the next trip with the Ducote sisters.
